What do you want to take away from your workouts? Sticking to a body type diet is important if you want to realistically reach your goals in the shortest amount of time possible. This goes for building volume to the muscles, or if cutting away the fat that’s somehow parked itself on your belly.
There are three different category body types that you should want to understand: Ectomorph, Endomorph and Mesomorph. Knowing which of the ones you fall in will help with meeting your own expectations and smashing right through them for success.

It’s important to know where you fit in regards to the three physiques. This will make your training easier (not easy, but fine-tuned for success). And if anyone who’s ever been truly dedicated to working out and failed to see significant gains, it really does toil on your motivation.
Understanding Your Body Type Diet Needs
Depending on your needs, you might need to eat more…you might need to start on a caloric-deficit program…or you might need to just focus on eating a bit better. Using the three distinct body styles as a guide will help with transforming your physique.
[This video presents an interesting fact that a person isn't specifically restricted to one of the three body types, but may actually fall into one category while having traits that fall into another.]
Body Type: Ectomorphs
With Ectomorphs being lean is not a problem. The issue is actually with putting on, and keep muscle on the frame. The metabolic rate in this body type is super fast. So to gain weight is really a challenge because it means one would need to consume a massive amount of calories on a daily basis. But you just can’t eat anything and everything and expect to pave out a path for success. In reality eating the right foods will ultimately get the job done.
Body Type: Mesomorphs
Mesomorphs generally have it pretty easy. Genetics has been kind to them, as they are the middle ground between Ectomorphs and Endomorphs, and are easily able to make use of any kind of body type diet.
Meso’s can maintain a ripped physique without relying on specific eating restrictions, or put on muscle without facing too much of a struggle. This doesn’t mean they are exempt from eating right, or working out consistently. Like all body types these two factors are key to stick with for attaining any personal goals.
[This video post is for anyone interested in developing a training program geared specifically for the mesomorphs of the world.]
Body Type: Endomorph
For the average Endomorph getting lean is typically the goal. This is because, unlike Ectomorphs who have a skinnier frame, Endo’s have no problem with gaining weight. They can build muscle just fine. But getting a set of defined abs can be a struggle. Sometimes, no matter how hard they train, that stubborn six pack always seems out of reach. Sure sounds frustrating.
Endo’s typically need to stick with a meal plan that is high protein, high fiber, high in nutrients and low in carbs. Also, cardio, preferably some form of interval training like HIIT, should be put into action instead of general strength training. The combination of the two can really help to rev up the metabolism.
No matter what the type of body you were born in to, with the right dedication you can really progress into your goals.
I wanted to showcase this well put-together video that highlights how much a persons inner drive can accomplish within their limitations.
Mesomorphs typically only have to reign in their diets and workout routines for better results. But, with the right kind of plan an Ectomorph could actually build up quite a bit of muscle, and an Endomorph could slice away the weight that’s been hiding the ready to be seen abdominals. It all comes down to having the right kind of body type diet in place to meet those challenges head on.

Interesting article. I think I am naturally an ectomorph with mesomorph traits. As a young bloke I hated not being able to pack on size, but over the years I have figured out what my body responds best to. What body type category to you fall into Mitchell?
Niko,
I’d say I’m an ectomorph leaning into mesomorph territory, as well. It does take more focus on my part to put on the muscle, but I don’t mind the the challenge. Learning through trial-and-error for what works and what doesn’t is paramount for hitting your goals. I chalk up a lot of my early years of working out as learning how my body responds to certain ways of training. And, luckily, having the mesomorph traits allows me to maintain my physique with just minor tweaks to my diet.
Mitchell
Mitchell and Niko,
Add me to the ecto-mesomorph group. I have characteristics of both. I tend to be lean and struggle with adding weight. Add in a dose of too much time in front of a computer, trapped in a cubicle and it will have an affect. So, like you guys, it has taken time to figure out how the body responds and “work it”.
Interval training not only engages my mind, but works well.

Troy,
Interval training really can keep an exercise session from getting boring. There are so many ways to to switch up one’s routines that you never have to do the same workout twice. I get bored easily, and hate doing the same old cardio.
Mitchell
i think i’m endomorph and a bit of mesomorph.. but how do i make sure.. i’m fat! so does that mean i’m an endomorph? is endomorph guys always fat?
Hi Suvianto,
Being “fat,” as you put it, doesn’t necessarily mean you’re an Endomorph. One’s body type is typically determined when you look at your: activity levels, calorie needs and how much effort is needed to put on muscle or lose weight. While I can put on weight or lean down without tremendous effort, working to maintain these results just means more focus on my part.
Generally, Endomorphs train to shed fat. Reducing your calorie intake and working in strength training and cardio into the mix could help you achieve a leaner physique.
I hope that helps some.
-Mitchell
i really think i’m an endomorph coz i feel its very hard for me to shed fat, but its easy to gain them..
is there any way i can be a 100% sure of what type of body do i have?
-Suvianto
Suvianto,
A body type is a classification of your body generally based on your genetics. Having a high or low metabolism is usually handed down by your parents just as eye, hair and skin color. While there are three main somatotypes (ecto, meso and endo) you’re not bound by these limitations. It might take more of a concerted effort to lean down on your part, but it is possible to get the physique you’re after.
Typically, you can figure out which of the three body types you fall in on your own, and it seems like you have a pretty clear understanding of which one you fall under. But if you really want to be 100% certain, then I suggest finding a lab facility which specializes in testing athletes. The scope of anthropometric testing and scoring your body type was well beyond my post. But I hope this helps.

thx a lot mitch, u’ve been a great help..
maybe i can really kinda figure out..
wish the best of luck in getin lean ^^
